Are you an educator, teacher or community member interested in expanding your knowledge of nature pedagogy and outdoor learning? Nature Play Academy runs programs for children based entirely outdoors and has loads of practical ideas and practices to share with you! Our network meetings will provide a space where educators, teachers and nature enthusiasts can share ideas, inspire one another, collaborate and participate in a dialogue on how to bring more nature into children's lives!

Each month we will focus on a specific skill or approach that can be easily implemented with children aged between 18 months and 12 years.  The monthly focus will determine what policies and procedures are shared and discussed. To determine the focus of each meeting our initial meeting will involve brainstorming ideas, participants will be presented with a variety of topics to choose the direction of future meetings. As we progress in our nature practices we will set aside time for sharing ideas/practices participants are trying within their settings.

Some example topics we can focus on include: fire-craft, whittling, foraging, shelter building, camp cooking, storytelling, ropes and swings, tool use and safety in nature.

Our network meetings will look at ways nature pedagogy and nature immersion improve children's connection to living things. By spending regular time in nature we are enhancing children's development and increasing their capacity to become the next generation of environmental stewards. Quality Area 3. Nature pedagogy also improves community engagement and inspires collaborative partnerships with families, children are often able to transfer what they have learnt in nature across a variety of contexts. Quality Area 6.
